V8, the 4.3 use the same guidelines.



Anyhoos... Make sure there ar no shorts in the wiring, since you previously mentioned there was a fire involved.


Not saying it isnt possable but its all new wiring now.
I'd double check the PCM ground too. "Sometimes wires get chaffed when the engine gets droped in.

The only other thing I can think of, off the top of my head, is a bad PCM.:dunno:

I noticed that you said that you lined the rotor button up with the #8 cyl. It needs to be lined up with #1. The computer will adjust the timing as needed, it can only do so much, if you are lined up on #8 it may not be able to adjust enough. Also, the timing needs to be somewhere from -1 to 1 for the computer to accept position. If you have a scantool that gives you live engine data, you can adjust the dist while watching the tool to 0 it out.

I always did it this way. I thought its was the correct way to do it.

I think you may have mis understood what I typed, that or i mis typed something.

The distributor housing has 2 pointers on the inside, 1 has the number 6 engraved in it and the other has the number 8 engraved in it. V8's should point to the number 8 printed on the housing it isnt actually cylinder #8 its cylinder # 1.

ok guys and gals I have thought and thought about this. I have been leaning towards ANOTHER Pcm but decided I would try a NEW Crank sensor, I called the guy and had him go get one and stick it on as a last resort before we ordered another PCM. He just called me back and said its been running for about 45 minutes to an hour so:fingersx::fingersx::fingersx: it is hopefully fixed.
