There are numbers stamped on the pinion shaft where the input yoke is. Sometimes you can clean the end of the shaft if the u-jount is still in, but that should have u-bolts holding the u-joint so just drop it out and get the numbers.

Divide the 2 numbers and you get the ratio.

Nice, Thats clean! On propane or something?...

Honestly I don't know why it was so clean... I'd like to think that it just ran that clean. But I got thinking maybe when it was overheated it burned it all off?? And it wasn't just overheated. After they brought it back, the temp cable/hose was melted off the side of the motor. Both head gaskets blown completely out in the middle, and leaking between the others I think, burning tons of coolant... And it still started right up over a year after that when I pulled it into the shop to see if it was salvageable.

Either way I was impressed it ran. The motor was the one thing I never touched on that old truck. Tranny and front end were basically new when the motor was blown. Worst part was I saw a low mile 5.3 for sale a month before they blew the motor and I didn't buy it. Moral of the story, don't let people who don't watch their guages use an old truck!!! :(

Bought a couple 12 bolt rear ends over the weekend.....One was a open carrier, One was a Gov lock, And got a limited slick clutch type locker... I've got like 4 different 12 bolts now, Hope to find a good housing and open carrier, worth using. I will be using a mini spool or just welding the spider gears.

4.56 gears is what i will be running more than likely...

I'd like to find a ford 9inch already set up with 4.56's... But money is tight. I think it might sit on the back burner for a few weeks until i get christmas bought. But i'd like to get the body out of the weather. Probably a few months of body work to do
