I'm not short, I'm Fun Sized!
I bought this truck at the end of 2008. Long story short I gave it to an ex when i broke up with him and everyone told me I was stupid to do so. So one night I asked for it back and low and behold its in my possesion again. I got it back last April in worse condition than when I bought it...
So here is a little time line of photos from the day I bought it till now
this is the first time it was taken out to the desert back in early '09
taking it back from the ex....no engine so it had to be trailered and you can't see it but the hood was in the bed and a whole bunch of misc parts including an engine block
here it is just sitting in the yard....it looks so sad and shameful
First thing was to get it running
Thanks to Cole I have a donor 350 engine from one of his speedtrucks he used to race.
Got the engine mounted and all the misc parts needed to make it run but the power steering pump gave us a little run for our money. The truck has hydro-boost brakes that are from a diesel but we had no idea of the year...so after a few tries and a trip to the dealer we figured it out.
Now its time for paint. I don't want to spend a fortune on this thing since its an off road vehicle so flat black it is and a quart of rustoleum did the trick
and don't forget our makeshift paint booth! Cole's dad would have killed us if we got black paint on the newly painted floor!
Here it is all nice and new looking
We have been driving it around like this minus all the interior except for seats since we got it running. This weekend we worked on some interior and painted on some sound deading on the floor.
I had the old door panels that were a steel blue color. Went to the parts store and picked up some of the vinyl dye stuff and wrapped the cloth piece of the door panel in some black vinyl we had laying around. Here are the results....
Next was to work on the dash. I didn't want to spend $100 on a oem replacement so a trip to the junk yard was in store. we picked up a brown dash panel that was all cracked (sorry no before pics of what it looked like). But we decided to rip all the padding off and just fill in the wholes and paint the metal piece and put that in the truck. Just something a little different.
After some fiberglass and bondo work and some primer here is what we have
We painted it a dark gray to match the door panels but it isn't quite dark enough so we are going to repaint it
We are making some aluminum trim panels to go in the dash and the door panels.
There is going to be plenty more to come as we finish the dash and make a gauge cluster and put some carpet in it and do a bunch of other things.
Enjoy!
