i bought a 79 2wd truck to play with for some time. then i got the bug for a 4wd and my buddy had a rolling chassie. i bought the 79 4wd chassie and flipped the 2wd body on there with no problems. cut the floor for the levers and off i went.

i didnt have any clearance issues. i took off the 4wd stick then put the body on. then i made a small hole to get it threw. once it was in i just trimmed the hole till i had the full range of the shifter.

i didnt see the hump that was on the old 4wd chassie because there wasnt anything on it.

Ahh, thats what I was hoping for, was some comparison info. Not available in this case. Glad it worked out though. I am hoping in my 85 K-10, its a bolted in hump. So I can take it off, lay it over the other cabs hump, drill the same holes, trace it and cut it out, so it looks good. At least I'll know it looks good under the carpet right??? That is important you know. :D

you could allways make a cheap 3'' body lift while your in there. 2''x2''x3'' tubing with washers welded to the top and bottom to keep them in place. thats what i did later on in its life.

That would sure certainly be the best time to do that wouldn't it? Never thought of that. Then the clearance on the hump is likely to change anyway in that case, so I could get by with the standard 2wd hump and cut the hole out as you did yours. I'll have to consider that idea when I get there. Great Idea.

your there, might as well get it done at the same time. plus it makes it so easy to get to the tranny bolts later in life if something happens

dont go past 3" on the lift. the body will start to move big time. my buddy had a truck that he put 6" in. i had more supports to keep it still than it was worth.

I may not even go 3. Might just do 2 inch. I am not think I want mega lift anyway, but if I am going to go thru all the trouble and be there, by all means, that would be the time to do the lift.
