I always thought those and the '93 Lightnings were a joke.
Didnt the SS have something like 260 hp?
Something like 265 and 365 torque. Stock they would jump out of the way pretty quick but keeping you pulled back in the seat wasnt so hot.
Mine has about 110,000 miles on it now. Back when I got it, I put a old set of closed chamber 396 heads and a 500 lift comp cam in it. Headers , dual exhaust, gutted cat, MSD box, and some other nic naks.
Mine runs like a SOB!! It still has a 400 in it and 3.73 gears. At 70 mph it just suck's.
Im building a new engine, 4L80E, and some turbo stuff for it. 110,000 miles is plenty hard on anything with a 3.73 gear and short tires.
I like going to Arizona so I plan to make a road trip hot rod out of it.
BTW, the few mods I made to mine made it run mid 13s back when it had some compression left.

496 with a small turbo. I really think im going to put it on propane to. The turbo will a power adder for the propane.
A 496 with a turbo will haul balls  Why such a big engine and then a "small" turbo. How much power are you looking for?

If I turbo it, it'll have a single 88mm turbo. The size of the turbo will depend on the amount of boost you want.
Its getting a 496 because I already have one. Leftovers from my camaro pile.
I dont want too much power, 650 or 700 HP. The turbo helps to build power and keep it streetable. The day's of radical idle aint much fun anymore. Im looking for something I can take off in and go somewhere without big cam issues.

I know we're talking big blocks here, but I don't know if I've ever heard an 88mm referred to as a "small turbo".

Clean ass truck, man.

Hey, if I wanted it to make some power it would have 2- 91mm turbos on it.
yeah..... 88mm is not even close to a small turbo.... if you went with twin 91's..... you'd be looking at making north of 2000hp
