Photos of the exterior of the 2016 Tacoma have been released (but no interior or powertrain info yet):

Personally I think it's a half-assed attempt by Toyota. Ride a body style for a decade then slap a new front end and bed that isn't even coherent with the cab? Look at where the body line in the doors hits the bed, it just stops! It's like they just took the current truck and beat the front end and bed with an ugly stick. I'm sure the interior will be much better but if the powertrain upgrade is more than throwing the updated 4.0 with dual VVT that the 4Runner got over 5 years ago while keeping the same 5 speed tranny I'd be surprised.

Between the "all-new" Tundra, Corolla, Camry, and now this, it just seems Toyota isn't even trying anymore and yet people can't seem to buy enough of them. Though I'm sure it'll still be fairly reliable (11 year old design after all), take a hell of a beating, and have ridiculous resale.

Not a huge fan of it, but may change my mind when I see it in person. Would like to see the interior too.

That grill looks like they borrowed the designer from Ford's latest Fusion and "butched it up, some." :uhoh:

I think some of the Japanese brands have fallen into the "we don't have to try very hard" rut that US's Big Three fell into for a long time. Hopefully, they won't stay there as long. :dunno:

I think it's more attractive than the Tundra.

The bed looks like it could be rather shallow. Not used to the mid-sized trucks!

It doesn't look that mad at all and it's doors still aren't as aged as the F-250's.

Styling is completely predictable. Lots of 4runner cues in the front end. At least it doesn't have the gaping jaw "creature from the black lagoon" styling that other Toyota and Lexus vehicles have been butchered with.

The Toyota faithful will buy these by the thousands.
