Man. That last model was a beauty. I said it time, and time again. It was the only other SUV I would consider over a Tahoe/Yuk/Escy. But now, I am fully in the GM camp 
Doesn't look any better in that picture. 
So it was between a smallish Jeep that's been dead since 2001 or a full-size Tahoe/Yuk/Escy?

His Tahoe is a 2001 so the timeline fits just fine.
OK, that makes a little bit more since. I lose track of what year everyone's vehicles are. 
I only know because my white one is the same year and he and I have had many conversations about them.

When looking to replace the old 'hoe, I was looking at the '12 Grand with the Hemi. I thought that was damn fine vehicle.
This is the new Cherokee (old Liberty,) not a new Grand Cherokee.
