I thought I would try the lights I already ordered. The only concern I have if I mount 2 strips where my windshield meets the headliner on either side of the mirror, how much light will fill the cab.

I will try and shroud the light if needed against the windshield. If it doesn't work I'll be ordering this.

Glare back into the cab shouldn't be too bad, but it's easy enough to make a shroud for them.

For backup lights, how about this?

They're rugged as hell. I had one center mounted on the back of my truck and used it for a step getting in and out.

BTW, Northern is s good place to see what these look like in operation, and compare them to one another. They usually have a display setup for them.

How do they look in daylight though? And what's the quality like? Do you think they'll be durable enough?

52" bar for the cab might be too wide. I've got a 48" on mine that fits perfect, though mine is old school rotators. Heck, I know a guy (Haven't seen him in awhile though) who was willing to give me a couple of reconditioned bars like mine, in red. All I had to do was drive to Richmond and pick 'em up. I never did because I'm not authorized red, the lenses are freaking expensive, and I'd also have to buy cable and a control box for them. Wasn't worth it to me but might make sense for you. I should be seeing him on the 7th at a hamfest. I'll see if he still has them. It'd cost you the price of the lenses (needs two at about $65 each), the cable (a few bucks per foot), control box (about $50 used on eBay) and whatever actual shipping came to from me to you, or drive and meet me halfway.

I'll have to get some day time photos and video. When I was setting them up in day light, they appeared brighter than I thought they would. They seem to be durable but only time will tell. They have heavy cover on the under side of the grill top. Of course there is another cover that over laps the grill top and then the hood comes down on top of both. The only weather they will see is when I'm moving and I would think it would take a good hard rain for the lights to see moisture, they are tucked under there pretty good.

You'll definitely want to avoid anything with flashing from the headlights, as that is strictly for emergency vehicles only and is usually very strictly enforced.

Here's a pic of the exact same lightbar he wanted to just give me. He bought a hundred or so at auction from the city of Richmond when they upgraded all their police & fire vehicle lights and stripped 'em all down to parts and assembles good ones from all the pieces after cleaning, inspecting, etc.

I have a client that gets huge discounts on Grainger because they buy so much! I'll ash him about these.

Around here, all the big Landscape companies(Bland, Valley Crest, True Green and Brickman) run strobes in their headlights when plowing or just parked on the side of the road. I think the law is always for awareness and safety so I would not have a problem using them for those purposes. If I installed them on the Equinox, Oldsmobile or any other passenger vehicles then the law would cite me.

I think that's quite a risk they're taking, but you're right that enforcement can be selective. Of course, the first time a trooper gets pissed off at something stupid the driver did that's sure as shit gonna get added on.

I don't think they pursue vehicles like that because pickups around here with strobes as safety lights come by the 1000's.

Mostly on my truck, they will be used in the event of winter precipitation. During these storms I never see a state trooper unless they are called to a accident. Around here, most of ST's can't drive in the snow like most of the residents in this area.

I think in the 12 years of being a Landscape contractor that performs snow removal I came up against one state trooper. I was trying to get around standing traffic and had proceeded to travel on the incoming lane on this 4 way highway. I plowed the way and he followed until I got where I needed to go, we went separate ways! I had strobes going on that pickup, too!
