My point wasn't to criticize the Subaru at all... just pointing out that fuel economy needs to be (but really hasn't been) addressed. I'm certain they can all do better. The last decade has been all about more more more horsepower. As much as I like horsepower, we have to get a grip on fuel economy for the future.

My Honda has done 31 on along highway trip, but the average mileage with Emily driving it is about 26. It drops a bit if I'm the pilot.

The owner reports I am talking about are real world averages with mixed driving. No doubt they can be beaten on an all highway trip.

Yeah.. Depends on how you drive 'em and what kind of traffic you're in.. I usually see around 22 or so in town.. But, that's with a good bit of freeway driving..

Before I added the bigger tires, lights, and brush guard to my Blazer, I'd get 18 MPG city driving only :dunno:

EcoBoost is a damned good idea, and getting that kind of power out of a V6 without sacrificing fuel economy is a pretty good achievement.

Most V6's in a truck are going to get about the same mileage.

Don't know why they didn't TT the 5.0 right off the bat instead of a 6. Only 16/22 MPG's out of 6 cylinder is the reason why they turn me off so much.

Because a TT 5.0 would produce more power than a 1500 drivetrain can handle

I'd still like to see what the MPG comparisons are for ALL of the manufacturers trucks equipped for MAX trailering. All of the EPA ratings we've seen are for their lightest, highest geared 2wd models... that means nothing to me.

There's a bunch of bickering here.... but until we get more information and see how it actually performs in the real world, i don't see how any conclusions can be drawn yet. According to the specs it'll tow better than the GM 6.2L, Ford 6.2L and Dodge Hemi.... AND it may actually get 3-4 mpg better than those trucks (yet to be determined). The only guys that should be ruling out the EB are those who will just never own a V6 in a fullsize truck even if it has 5000lb more towing capacity and gets 40 mpg.

And also keep in mind this is the first model year. Anyone who's an engineer knows that these guys had program managers breathing down their necks to get this engine out... i'm sure that there are A LOT of improvements to come that'll boost MPG. Not a SINGLE engine on the market right now was put out on year one with the max power and max MPG that it was capable of.

...... I sure am glad i'll be back in the truck market in 3-5 years. Looks like i'm going to have a lot of sweet options

So, Matt... What you're basically saying is "we'll have to wait & see" which is what us "bickering" folks said last night.. Right?? :jester:

Yes.

I missed out of the fun last night so just pretend that the time stamp on my comment was 10 hours earlier and all is right in the world :D

My thinking is this... If you're going to get Dennis Leary to do one of his "Okay?!" spiels in your commercials about "best in class" this, "you don't have to order your engine from the kid's menu anymore" that.... and you boast about this new engine and how it's supposed to "change" things with best in class towing, fuel economy, etc.. It just seems like it should deliver a little more than one MPG better..

As I said last night, is it a move in the right direction? Sure.. But, the MPG change wasn't the leap the rest of the engine seemed to be for V6 power, torque, etc.. :dunno:

I know some other manufacturers (I believe Honda is one of them - not in the Ridgeline) have different "modes" the car can be tuned for.. You select "normal" and it is well.. "normal." Generic settings for around town driving.. You put it in "sport" mode and it selects a different set of tables for fueling and throttle response.. and the car is more peppy, but drinks more gas.. You put it in "econ" and it becomes a gutless wonder, but you're saving on gas..

I know "big, manly TRUCK" drivers *ME BEAT CHEST NOW.. ME PICK THINGS UP.. ME PUT THEM DOWN* would say they don't "neeeed" a system like that. They don't "caaaare" about the environment and how much they spend on gas. Well, IMO, if Ford (and others) could take a queue from Honda and do more with the "tow/haul" mode than just change some shift points to keep it in each gear longer.. Maybe they could achieve some of these crazy CAFE standard fuel economy #'s the govt wants..

If they can't / don't / won't do that... You can bet the HP wars will be over and something the size of a Colorado will soon become "the BIG truck GM is selling, unless you want a 3/4 ton or one ton." :dunno:
