That's pretty high miles for a 2009...
I think the timing belt is due to be changed at 100,000 miles also.

Seems like a price around $7,000 to $7,500 would be pretty fair... :dunno:

Damn! I forget about these new cars with timing belts instead of chains. Wants way more than $7500. Actually $9900. Thought I could get them down but haven't budged yet.

Also looking at an 2008 Pontiac G6 with the 3.5L V-6 and 88,000 miles. Does the V-6 require timing belt at 100K?

He is about $2,500 / $3,000 dollars too high...  :rollin:

Someone needs to remind him...
This is an "ORPHAN" car that is no longer being made.
Parts and service may be an issue if you keep it for very long...
It already has almost 100,000 miles on it...
And.... You can buy a 2009 Honda Accord EX for not much more than he is asking for the Saturn.

The V6 uses timing GEARS... no belt...

For ten grand I'd run (not walk) away and not look back. Try finding front end body parts for that car. Unfortunately they are the most replaced parts on a kid's car (no offense to your kid). They are probably getting extremely rare by now.

7500 will get you a nice used Japanese car that you won't be pouring huge repair money into if you look around a bit. I HIGHLY recommend looking at them. Accord, Altima, Camry, Sentra, Corolla, Civic, etc. all can be very reliable used cars and you won't need to keep a box in the truck for all of the parts falling off of them.

I'm pretty sure the 2.4 has a chain. The pushrod 3.5 definitely has a chain.

Wish I knew for sure but seems price is way high so guess I pass on the Saturn. Also looking at 2008 Pontiac G6 with 88,000 miles. Has V6 so should have timing chain and have another 30-40,000 miles left before changing.

After reading your initial post, I thought you were going to snag it for around $5k. I would pass on this car.

There are a ton of better options when you get in the $10k range.

Keep looking...there are some good ones out there.

Around here Saturns are plentiful and inexpensive. They last forever the older ones that is as long as you check the oil. They are easy to work on and finding parts isn't that hard yet. Just depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. I know Craigs list isn't the same everywhere but here there are a ton of Saturns and in good shape for reasonable prices.
