Is it possible to change the heads to a 5.3l? If not if I was to buy a 5.3l or 6.0 what major changes would have to be made?

The 4.8 and 5.3 have both the same heads.

706/852/862
Head: 1999+ LR4 4.8-liter Truck
1999+ LM4 / LM7 5.3-liter Truck

Combustion chamber Volume:61.15cc
Compression Ratio:9.5:1
Intake port Volume:200cc
Exhaust Port Volume:70cc
Intake valve Diameter:1.89-inches
Exhaust valve Diameter:1.55-inches

The 4.8/5.3/6.0 are all the same LS style and are interchangeable. There are slight differences between years. Why the want to swap? Goals, budget, etc...?

The engines are all the same. The 6.0 will swap right in. You will need to get it tuned. Unless you plan on beefing up the transmission, you will have to swap it out with a 4l80. This will be a more indepth modification.

Like i said earlier what is your budget?

Don't really have a budget I'll pay what ever it cost to have it running right, preferred to stay under the 10 grand range.

Sell the truck, take the cash and 10 grand and go buy a truck with. 6.0L.

That's the easiest way.

^^^ What he said.

Sell your truck for 15K (or more?) and I'll sell you my truck with the 6.0L for $25K. It only has 62K mile on it and is loaded.

It's about 400hp.

I agree with just getting a truck with the 6.0, but if you just love to tinker and want to go that route, then that is a good option because you put your time and effort into it and when the final product turns out well, you can say you accomplished it yourself.
