My little brothers 2003 Trailblazer is having some issues. I don't have direct access to it and have not worked on it much so I don't know much about the 4.2 straight 6.

Can someone help enlighten me? It it running really rough and sometimes stalls according to Ian. He just had a shop check it out and said it needed spark plugs and a new ignition coil. The code they got was for cylinder #5 misfire. They have quoted just under $600 to change a coil and plugs.

Does anyone have any experience with this motor? Is is distributorless or is it still running a distributor? I am trying to get an idea of what it will take to fix it and see if he and I can do it without shelling out $600.

Distributorless, they have a COP system, coils are under a hundred bucks at Rock Auto. Swap coils around and see if the misfire moves.

but before you go buying COP's at 100 bucks a pop, check Ebay. I bought some COP's for my F-150 from an ebay retailer called "Global Automotive" I believe i paid 100 for 8 of them and they are OEM specs with a lifetime warranty. They have very high reviews both on ebay and on the forums so it would be something to check out. I kept my OEM ones just in case 1 or 2 went bad just for backups.

Do you have the name of the Ebay member you got them from?
