Well I got my fluid report back from Dyson Analysis. Not a bad report at all for the miles on the fluid. I basically just did a complete transmission fluid swap out at 10k miles on my transmission shortly after I purchased my truck back in 2002. I didn't change out the filter, just the fluid.
As you can see the Iron 134 is high but not a damage level considering the mileage on the fluid and from the filter being loaded from wear in metals. It is from band material, gear wear. The filter was loaded since I didn't change it out.
Copper 97 is from bushing and bearing wear slightly high.
Lead 109 is high bearing wear for this transmission design and high due to filter not being changed.
Aluminum is normal low wear at 9ppm.
No dirt in the transmission as shown by 6 on silicon.
V100C shows that the fluid sheared 1 C from 6.75 down to 5.6.
TAN is slightly elevated and is reason for the soft metals wear.
Flash point is stable @ 375.
Oxid is normal for a PAO flluid.
KF Karl Fischer water is low and normal at 254.
TBN is slightly depleted and is usually at 1.5 to 1.7 for AMSOIL. The acidity in the fluid is over running the fluid due to low TBN.
The Glycol is normal due to the additive package in the AMSOIL and not coolant. Fuel is normal as well at .645 due to the additive package in the fluid.
There is transmission wear and it should drop now that I changed the fluid. I'm going to re-sample at 10k miles to check and see what happens to the wear.
One thing to take from all this is just because the fluid looks clean doesn't mean it is still good. As you can see from my transmission pan in the "how to" section it was really clean but the fluid was in need of changing. I should have changed it out at 50k miles and not let it go to 89k.
