I bought a 01 sierra last year and I have always liked the looks of a lifted truck so I want to lift mine. I belive it might have a leveling kit on it. I know the torsion bars are cranked up. What would be a good "cheap" 6" lift kit? I have been looking at the rough country lift kit. I will be installing it myself. And putting 35" tires on it.

Or get the rust fixed first. I was quoted $4,800 to fix both rockers and the box side.

Sounds like you are on the right track, Rough Country is a good brand. Shouldn't be hard to accomplish what you want to do.

$4,800 to fix? Man that sounds high, are they going to repaint the entire truck or is there more rust than what we can see?

The only rust is the pics I posted. Just repainting rocker and piece of bed side. They all side you have to replace inner and outer rockers but the outer rocker is the only part rusted. My truck is under coated so there is very little rust under there.

Lifting it is pretty easy and lots of good kits are available. That 4800 repair bid sounds about 1000 -1500 too high to me.

Lift kits are readily available for GMT800s, I haven't heard of much exceptionally good or bad about one brand vs another. The biggest thing to look for is the amount the front diff drops in relation to the lift amount, you want to keep the cv joints at a fairly stock angle.

As for the rust, that seems pretty high. Have you considered just having it roughly repaired, then adding flares and just coating the lower part of the truck with bedliner? It would hide rough body work much better than paint. I have bedlined below the body line on two of the last three trucks I have had, and I have been really happy with the results.

And... :welcome: to :tmc:

That's what I was thinking. Just cover up the bare metal then put on some fender flars. Also thinking about buying rocker replacement pieces that I cut out all the bad and weld in the good. Then put the bed liner on that.
