Well the ball is in his court. After looking at the truck and crawling under it I found that the rockers that display surface rust you can about push your finger through...

I can replace them but you have to about dismantle the truck to skeleton form. Of course I could cut the rocker out of another truck and do it cheaper but I would want to order new parts. The only problem is that when you order the rocker its about the entire side of the truck that goes all the way around the cab that wraps the door. At this point the cab corners would have to replaced. This can cost about $1000-1200 a side in just parts.

I am up for the task if the owner is willing to let it go for $5000.

We left him after we looked at the truck and he was beside himself... He didn't even realize how bad the rust had taken over from sitting so long.

:dunno: if he will call us back.

Wow, sounds like he definitely didn't know what shape the truck was in after 2yrs.
If he realizes how bad it really is, he might come down to your $5500, but I don't see him coming down the extra $500.

Is there a common problem with GMT800's that causes the rockers to rust out fast?
Seems like I've been seeing quite a few of them lately. :dunno:

You would be surprised how fast crap goes down the tubes when it sits.

I think that there are a few other attributing factors here as well... He drove it down to the Beach for jobs... 3 days here and 3days there... Never thoroughly washed it off underneath and let it sit...

The main reason we were so attentive to these issues is because my brother is working on a 2005 with these issues and GM warranteed it. It comes with a 6 year 100k miles warranty for corrosion.

I don't have to buy that truck or any other unless the price is right... I got time on my hands.

I was talking to my neighbor and he bought a similar truck crew cab 2wd and I think that it is short bed. He paid $5000 for it with 220-240k miles on it with a new engine.

I feel like this truck may be one of those deals: "You get what you pay for" And with the thought in mind "Its just a work truck" not something you go all over town to to eat at a nice restaurant.

I was talking to another friend and he bough a Cummins Diesel truck that sat for 3 years. Yes he had to spend about $1500-2000 in tires and yes it was rusted underneath but those things don't really effect the truck down here as much...

I will take some pictures of it... He verbally came down to $6800 before I made him a offer. So I have some people looking for trucks for me but I am thinking this might be worth taking a second glance at....

Thanks for all your guys help so far.. I think you would be able to help me out a little more once you see photos of it...

You betcha
Trucks that sit for 2 years are as good as dead. Like was mentioned you will have lots of reliability issues down the line creeping in. The rusty rockers are the least of your concerns.
