    th200r4 tranny

I think posted in another thread. Unless you are having Art Carr build your 200-4r, avoid it like the plague. RUN from it.

    '68 TH400-need help

up to 65 Turbo 400's have the good low drum sprag for a trans that may use a trans brake to launch off of, along with the good interemediate sprag that is great for slamming and hitting 2nd gear real hard. You didn't get the good low sprag drum thru 69 which is rarely needed, but thru 69 you did...

    th 400

I'll agree with all that on the T350, but if you can get that 68 Vette T400 for $100, I'd run with that. That 68 year model will have the good sprag drum in it too. That will stand up to anything you'll be putting in that truck and then some.

A 93 model is 4L60-E Not a 700r4. Same trans, but one is Electronic one is not. You won't be using an Electronic one in that truck. IF you choose to go 700r4, look for an 88-92 preffered. 87 is OK, but 86 and older you should avoid. There were improvements made every single year on the 700r4, so...

What brand(s) of truck(s) do you drive?? >> EVERYBODY VOTE!<<

Just an FYI, Ford was NOT the first major assembly line. Ford made it better, by using a conveyor belt, but a guy by the name or Ransom Olds invented the assembly line and was first to use it. Surely we have all heard of Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile was the first brand mass produced on an assembly line.

Its getting late and I gotta work all day tommorow, and selling some parts. Then Sunday I am supposed to be going to pick up another truck and go out to my dads for Thanksgiving that I didn't get to have yesterday. But, just so you know, I don't do patch jobs. I'm not fixing what is wrong. The...

There is not doubt in my mind that Turbo 350 should handle that basically stock big block from the late 70's. However, keeping longevity in mind, I would prefer to add some strength to it. And for the money that those parts costs, and as cheap as Trubo 350 cores are these days, we can build it...

NOPE, no such thing as a 66 Turbo 350. They could have been built in 68 but were not put into cars until 69. So it will be a 69 year model or later. And they never put the entire vin # on the trans. I'd say that is probably the last 9 digits of a 13 digit Vin. Engines were done the same way. I...

Also the fill tube seal that is sticking up and out of the trans, that is also a dead giveaway that it's a later model T350 because the early models used a simple O ring on the tube and that was it. Then the hole got bigger later on to accomodate the bigger seal for the fill tube. I'm certain...

Actually usually the best and easiest way to tell is by the tag on the trans. It normally looks like this pic. Also that is how they were ID'ed in the 60's and early 70's, so with his having the VIN # stamped into it, that tells me, its likley mid 70's or newer and not going to have the good...

Here is a pic of Turbo 400 drums. Same differance here. See the differant in the stlye of the drum? The drum on the left is notched race and uses a roller sprag. Has like 8 rollers in that flimsly sprag cage. The the drum on the right has the smooth race and used the dogbone wedge type sprag...

That # might help if I can find a chart that uses that type of code. But its not a 66-68. 69 was first year for Turbo 350. 1965 was first year for 400.

Nope, needs the tag, or maybe that long digit # could tell me if I looked it up, but I can tell you its a later model trans just by looking at it, and is going to have the roller element sprag which is not the preferable one. If you want to be slamming 2nd gear, we really need to find a drum...

Hopefully the tag is still on the side of it. If not, have you ever had the pan off of it? You can tell if its the old style if the manual valve uses a double L peice for the linkage or an S piece from the manual valve to the linkage.

How old is your transmisison? It would be great to find a 69 or older T350. That should have the smooth race drum in it and the dogbone wedge sprag. That in itself will save a bundle. All you have to do as far as hard parts then is the hardened sprag gear, and if we can find a hardened T350...

I am not suprised about the Monza breaking loose at 1800. There is not actual way to rate a torque converter stall on the money, unless you give a builder all your specs and let him figure it out. Just to go out and buy a 2200-2500 stall converter doesn't always work. To many things to take in...

And you have not taken this out yet and looked at it over real good? Remember I suggested maybe that bolt hole is broke off the bellhousing. I still think that is the most correct answer. I think you'll be able to tell that when you take the trans out. Even if it looks good. Someone could have...

BTW, I know its not a 200. A turbo 200 is metric, and says so right on the pan in many cases. It also have a solid case incuding the tailshaft houseing. The tailshaft housing will NOT come off of it as its part of the entire case. The pan is similar to the 350 but has a larger corner taken off...

Its NOT a 200, Possibly a 250 I said its possibly a Turbo 250. The Turbo 250 is identical to a 350 with minor exceptions. Less clutches and steels per clutch pack, and the 250 to the best of my knowledge has great big round holes that you can put your fist thru on each side of the bellshousing...

    5.7 TBI-Vortec build

I'll either use either in my 85 K10/20 or put in the 88 3/4 ton Silverado Burb that I just bought less motor and trans. It was orginally a TBI 454 and Turbo400, so it probably still has the ECM in it, and I'd just need to build the motor and get the wiring harness since the guy butchered it when...
