    Turbo 400 Build

Sure do. I suppose you are talking about getting the piston down in the drum without tearing up the lip seals??? You sure don't use c clamps to force it. That will tear the seals then the piston won't compress clutches. I have a little tool, that I found by accident one time at a paint supply...

And this one come apart just like it was supposed to. Simply held the input shaft and pulled the assembly out in one unit. Still looking nice and clean. Notice the Band is still in the case and its original location. And moment I been waiting for. :fingersx: Hoping the direct drum is the smooth...

It was 72 degrees out, and I bought a snowblower

I feel you pain Bernie, but I was opposite of you. When I had my home based eBay biz, I'd have 53 footers bring my my merch. I'd get a call. "Hey You Live in a residential neighborhood? " We can't deliver there with a 53ft trailer. I had to talk them into it. They block 1/2 of my house, the...

    Turbo 400 Build

Time to pull the front pump. Notice my homemade tools. I have used these forever and never ever had to use a pair of slide hammers yet. These made with a scrap piece of all thread I picked up at work, some wide shouldered jamb nuts, and I forget where I got those knobs, but you can also use more...

Donor Disassembly Now the disassembly of the donor trans starts. Obviously it had been in sitting outside in wet grass for some time for the bottom of the pan to look the way it does. But it had a rag poked in the dipstick hole, and I was hoping that kept the majority of the water out of it...

    Turbo 400 Build

Being that transmisison was going to need several hard parts replaced, I figured it would be best to find a donor trans for the hard parts. I got on CL and hit up all the Turbo 400 sellers that were $100-$150 and asked them for the code on the side of the trans. One Guy came back with a CE 69...

    The Trans Am Lives!!!!

Certainly not a Dodge fan myself, but as far the as the big 3 trying to bring back the Nostalgia of the older body styles, like the Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang, and Chey Camaro, I'd have to agree, Dodge did the best job as far as taking the old look and replicating it.

    Turbo 400 Build

Thanks Gramps. This is like one of those TV Cooking shows. Where they mix all the ingredients, throw it in the oven for 5 seconds and pull it out completed cooked dish. This trans build already has close to 5000 miles on it already. But for purpose of the thread, nope its not done yet...

    Brake pads

Can I ask what the purpose of hydro boost is for anyway???? I see absolutely NO reason whatsover to use hydro boost on this Wyle's truck. Hydro boost is used in vehicles that do not have alot of vacuum, like diesel engines, hotrods with big cams, and possibly the reason why a 1tons get hyrdro...

    Turbo 400 Build

OK, the case is now as clean as its gonna get. This thing ran 4 time thru the washer, still looked like hell, so I had to buy some commerical dereaser that eats skin to get it this clean. I had to call it good enough and live with it as is. Now that you seen all the fun stuff, and all the...

    Turbo 400 Build

Here is more carnage, why the trans would not come apart as it should have, and the actual failure that caused the domino affect for other damaged parts. Intermediate clutches, steels and pressure plate where welded together caused by the below failure. Here is the major initial...

yes, Ignition in On position you should have 12volts. If you got the truck with HEI, I'd feel confident it has already been done. You'd notice fairly quick if you did not have enough volts to run the dizzy. I'd think it would start, but have weak spark and probably run bad under strain.

    Turbo 400 Build

Now with the trans case gutted, its ready to go to the local trans shop and put in the washer to be cleaned. I will be getting my money's worth out of this one. It pays at times to help people out. I did a process service for this guy who was a friend of a friend and was divorcing his wife for...

    Turbo 400 Build

That all depends what came apart Dave. I have pulled non working transmission apart that looked gorgeous inside. Example being. You have a pump failure and the pump quits working, then nothing can compress or apply and nothing can burn up and the vehicle not able to move, no carnage is going to...

By the way, Nice Voltage Regulator. IF it has the 2 screws on the black cover like yours does, that usually means its adjustable. But, if you don't know how to do it, I reccoment just leaving it alone. Also that one looks very old and you may damage adjusting it. If the see the newer type with...

Nope. That is horn relay and Voltage Regulater. I think you are probably good to go on the HEI.

    Turbo 400 Build

Here are all the assemblies removed the from the transmission. Now we get to start taking assemblies apart and find out what really went wrong. Notice the band is no longer round. I did that trying the get the trans apart when it was stuck, so that carnage don't count. However, it needed...

    Speedo recalibration

    You are exactly right Bonez, and why I suggested 3 off at 65 is not bad at all, so broken down, he is 1mph off at every 20mph increment, 20mph = 1 40mph = 2 60mph = 3 80mph = 4 100mph = 5 And most speedo shops say 5% + or -. I do believe, some maybe 3%. So you'd be doing 95 if your...

For the purpose of knowing what a center support is supposed to look like, here is photo of one in its normal condition. You can tell the color of the parts, which part with the springs have been destoyed by comparing the pics. And the 1 above of the center support still in the case. There...

    Turbo 400 Build

FINALLY !!! I was able to pry, pull, wedge and manipulate the input shaft assembly including the forward and direct clutch drums out of the case. I was able to do this, by removing the retaining bolt for the center support under the vavle body. This is what it looks like now. Notice its getting...

    Turbo 400 Build

It sure can. You can get heat check in the case and causes cracks and also case lugs to break or get so soft they can be pushed around and chewed up. This one obviously got hot. But was spared. Next pics will show case lugs are OK. Probably what saved this case, was it was a new enough model...
