It's more about a bad management than any technical fault from their cars, which are actually good. The old Suzuki Forenza even had the same engine currently found in base versions of the Chevy Cruze...

Suzuki started to decline when the Samurai was turned into a 2-seater back there to meet safety rules. BTW since Fiat managed to reinforce the 500's body to meet impact safety standards back there Suzuki could do so to one of their kei-cars, getting the 1.0L 3-cylinder gasser instead of the 0.66L used in the JDM and aim it to the same people who would buy the Chevy Spark. And at least one version of the current Jimny wouldn't also be a bad option, even if it retained the same 2-seater limitation which affected the Samurai.

I knew a guy in high school who drove a Samurai. That thing tipped over just by looking at it!

Once again, America doesn't see a good thing when it sees one. Americans will be hung up on size and horsepower, which will eventually lead to the demise of this Neanderthal civilization.

Homo neanderthalensis is another species, they never lived in America.
They weren't inferior to the Homo Sapiens. We probably outnumbered them because we pop out babies faster. Also, you have Neanderthal DNA in you. Your grand grand grand grand (...) grand parents banged Neanderthals.
