Do a CL search for L.A Jen,I just looked and saw several nice ones for decent prices

I don't live in LA. I live in the Bay Area near Oakland but that is actually where I was looking last night. But I thought I'd ask you guys to see what would be the best year to buy.

Man... all of my 302 Ford truck buddies must have been lying to me. They still swear by them after a zillion miles. :dunno:

Of course some things go wrong with all trucks. I just don't think the 302 was ever a problem child.

They were. All of them.

Brian, have you owned a 302 yourself?

No but I have worked on quite a few of them over the years and anywhere from 70k-120 they suffered from continual cutting out after warm up, starting up right away and sometimes causing you to be stranded for 15-20 minutes...

I hired a new guy a couple of weeks ago. He was late everyday for a week until I had enough of it. Took me like a week of tinkering with it, replacing sensors and what not. After trying a few things it ended up being the pick up(of which was my original thought) but he replaced the distributor a year back along with a lot of other things trying to fix this over the past year.

If you did a simple search for it on "google" you will find it is a common problem a long with a list of other things from bad rings and using oil. But this is what I hear from my buds that actually work on them...

Every engine has had its isolated issues, but by and large I would have to say the 302 Ford was every bit as stout and reliable as the GM 350. I have had several 302s, it is a venerable powerplant, to be sure.

I figured since you preach it to Dave all the time you would have at least tried it.

Especially since you only came in this thread to only post something "unintelligent". It was only fitting that your post had no advice/opinion relating to the thread topic. You must only like to cause trouble... :jester:

Brian, I just asked if you ever owned one. Wondering if someone who is dogging something has ever actually owned one is a fair question, especially when a bunch of people who are disagreeing with you have actually owned them. Didn't know your answer was Googleable.

Man, you really don't know when to cool it, do you? I'd tread a little more lightly, if I were in your shoes.

I owned 2 80 model Broncos. Both were decent vehicles and really never had any mechanical problems with them. My only issue was the Dura-Spark ignition system.

Weren't those awesome? I had an 80 pickup, and it also had the variable venturi carb

After the Mallory ignition install, and the Carter carb, it was a good runner.
