Before I had them added to the new wheels and tires on the old Sierra, I used to get readings from the other set out in the barn.

Perhaps the listen for a signal and then transmit though.

Re: TPMS sensor question.

I thought they transmitted a signal every 30 seconds or so regardless of whether the tire was moving or not. :dunno:

Source?

I don't remember, just recall reading it...:uhoh:

It fits what is known though. When relearning the sensors on GMT-900 it's sitting still and done by letting air out of or putting air into the left front the tire and waiting up to 30 seconds until the horn honks then you move to the next tire. There's nothing that can transmit anything to the TPMS sensors, the only other part of the system is the receiver in the driver's door that is part of the keyless entry as well.

Mine doesn't transmit that often if the car has been sitting for a little while.
If I have just parked it ... it does.

For the cost, I would rebuild them. It isn't expensive and then you know you are good for a long time.

This is interesting. I'm fixin' to put some new tires on before winter and my truck is a 2007. My ass just figured I'd replace them for good measure :dunno:

Re: TPMS sensor question.

^^^ Good deal.

Update:

According to my GM guy here (GM master tech and service manager for 35 years), there is no official answer, but 7 years or 100K seems to be the consensus among GM dealers. Sensors DO transmit when stopped, but the frequency of transmissions slows to a crawl. Acceleration and high speed increases the number of transmissions and decreases battery life.

So he says.

So in Garage King Fred they should be good for 10 years or better. :D
