Why not just regear??

Both of there rigs were re geared lol

Doesn't mean they used the right gear. I would think there has to be a gear that can give DECENT gas mileage

Not with the V10. On my old boss's bone stock truck, he was averaging 9.8 mpg according to the computer, which we know can sometimes even be optimistic. It's just a thirsty motor, period.

The company I work for had bought 3 new F-250's with V10's when they came out. At the time I was driving a year old 250 that was an XL 4X4 with the 5.4. Those 3 V10's were gone by the time the end of the year rolled around. The president of the company told all of us that it would have been cheaper to buy a fleet of Semis then to keep those V10's fueled up

I bet in that year he didn't have to spend anything major on maintenance though lol

Nah, it was mainly fuel. I think one of them got tires about 6 months in. Not sure why, but they replaced the tires on one of the group.

The 5.4 250 I drove was trouble free the first 120K miles. I hauled a shit ton of tile and setting materials in it all the time. Once 120K hot the transmission screwed up, but once repaired it lasted another 60K before getting flipped over in a tornado that hit the branch it was sitting at.

My semis would get anywhere from 5.5 to 8 depending on how heavy the load was.

So yeah those v10s are just plain horrible for mileage.
