I'm a Ethanol guy. My ethanol fanboyism makes daddy's love for :apple: look like :brain:

I'll admit ethanol is hard on fuel lines. Hard on old carbs and fuel pumps. Hard on lots of things. But I've never heard of it turning white in the tank

Maybe there was some sort of calcium build up it pulled out? :dunno:

So you like ethanol... :jester:

About carburetors and fuel pumps: in Brazil, where pure ethanol has been in use since mid-70's it was usual to get a dual-chrome coating inside the carburetors to prevent rust.

That's the problem with the US ethanol industry. They've always tried to run in in gasoline motors. Put diesel in a gas engine and it'll run like shit. That doesn't make diesel a bad fuel. :dunno:

Even on her 2007 Impala, which is a flex fuel vehicle, the fuel pump started fwonking up on E85. GM doesn't put an E85 caliber fuel pump in it.

People hate ethanol so much because it is hard on (gasoline) engines and has bad performance. But if you took an engine designed to run on solely ethanol, it'd be better in both respects. :fume:

But our current energy policy of head-in-sand seems to be working just fine. No need to drill. No need to develop viable alternatives. :fume:

There were dedicated-ethanol cars until some years ago, but the flexfuels are currently more successful in the market because when there are too much changes in the ethanol's price due to the sugar production for export the car owners can still use regular gasoline. BTW back here the gasoline is usually blended with 20 to 25% ethanol and there were never such issues like the gas turning white when the vehicle gets parked for some long time...

But flexfuel engines are like ducks: a duck can swim, fly and walk, like a flexfuel can run with gasoline and ethanol, but they won't do it the best way...
