I did a little searching this morning and found this site http://www.andysautosport.com/chevr...mission/limited_slip_differentials/powertrax/ just for S-10s.Unfortunately you're kind of limited in choices :(

Oh,and BTW derail this thread all you want...the goal here is to help us all.
Thanks Gary!

That PowerTrax was the only one that came up on Summit. Dennis, would that be too harsh on the front end? (I don't know if that's considered an LSD or locker)

Matt,you might find this interesting..http://dezertdimes.com/2009/01/how-to-make-your-4x4-s10-better/

More info on the Powertrax, looks like it's you're only option :dunno:

Great article! Definitely getting bookmarked and printed out. I already have an iron front diff (since mine's a 5spd) and I have a Bravada shaft in my possession (it'll be going in next year). I'd love to do a 231 T-case swap (to a manual one; and eliminate all the vacuum lines and electrical stuff), but then I'd need to find a center console that would work with the shifter and a 5spd.

I guess I have an 8.6" rear diff since I have disc brakes. Is there that big of a difference between an 8.5" and 8.6"?

Also lots of great info in there about steering/suspension upgrades that can be done easily.

Looks like the PowerTrax is the only option for the front diff.

Question on the PowerTrax: Does it have any wearing parts? That's the one thing I like about the TruTrac is there are no "wearing"/rebuild-able parts.

There are no clutches to wear out, only notched discs(for lack of a better word). as far as the ring gear size goes :dunno:,but they are different in size. There are many videos on YT showing how these things work, check 'em out,I have.Cool to see how these things work and how some are installed.Check this out from Richmond Gear http://www.richmondgear.com/powertrax/images1/top1.gif

You've got the 8.5/8.6 because you're a ZR2... And if you've got a 4.3 5-speed you should also get the 8.5/8.6... There was also the 7.5/7.6 with disc brakes.

The S-series idler arm is too puny to handle the abuse of a locker... You have to get a custom bracket/mounting plate welded on the frame to get the k1500/2500 one installed.

One ZR2USA there was one guy that installed the 8.25" in his ZR2... It might have been Miles, I can't remember... Can't remember if he did a write up either

If you have the 3 button t-case you can MAKE it manual shift with some bolts, a welder and a wrench.

I do have the 3-button t-case, but I can't weld (there's a sticky on ZR2USA for the mod; read through it), and would just rather go with the 231 and use it's shifting mechanism and other stuff. I thought the point of the 231 was for the manual shift and that it was stronger. :dunno:

From what I've been reading, Miles has done A LOT when it comes to the IFS and steering/suspension parts. If he did the 8.25" swap, the write-up should have been sticky-ed, but I can't find anything on his work for the swap itself!

Hi guys,as promised...I now see what bracket Dennis was talking about welding to the frame..this is the bracket, right?
Idler arm & bracket for K1500/K2500(same part #) & idler arm for an S-10(SR2s are the same part #).These are Raybestos Premium parts(Raybestos is owned by Spicer).

The difference in size & strength is obvious.

Yep, that'd be it!

The hard part is getting the angle right, as I understand it, the s-series needs it to be angled for it to fit without changing much else...

It's been awhile since I read up on it.
