Gary, I'll be watching where this goes.

Do some research on beefing up steering components, too, just in case... I know the S-Series stock parts can't really handle a locker

Mostly just the idler arm gets the shit pounded out of it.
Did you have a locker/posi/limited slip in your Blazer?

I was leaning towards a TruTrac for both trucks (up front and in the back), but I don't think it is available for the diff in the ZR2. I know my Z71 is 7.25 up front, but I think the ZR2/S-series is smaller yet.

Nothing up front... You have to mod the frame to accept a k2500 idler arm, unless you keep a stockpile of idler arms for a locker up front

I was rockin' the G80 in that biatch.

Your Z71 should be 8.25" and your ZR2 is 7.25" or 7.2"

Is there that big of a difference between the S-series, K1500, and K2500 idler arm? Would a TruTrac be as harsh?

Oops. Guess I got it backwards then. Still, I don't think the TruTrac is available in a 7.25". I think guys have used the 8.25" front IFS setup before in a S-series, but I'm not sure what all has to be changed/mod-ed.

Sorry to de-rail the thread Gary. Have you cross-checked Amazon using the part numbers from 4WP?

From Eaton's site:
http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsServices/ProductsbyCategory/Automotive/DifferentialsLockingDifferentials/PCT_317264

''The Eaton Detroit Truetrac® limited-slip differential is the pioneer in helical gear based traction technology. Wheel spin out is limited by the differential, which employs pinion- and side-gear separation forces to automatically transfer torque to the wheel with the best traction. Mobility, stability and handling are enhanced, and drivers can be confident knowing that up to 3.5 times more torque is being transferred to the high-traction wheel. Operation of the Truetrac® is smooth and quiet, and the unit will engage without any driver knowledge or action required. It also has no wearable parts and requires no maintenance, meaning a lower overall cost for the customer.

Truetrac® Operation
The Truetrac® operates as a standard or open differential under normal driving conditions, allowing one wheel to spin faster or slower as necessary. When a wheel encounters a loss of traction, the gear separation forces take effect and transfers torque to the high-traction wheel. The helical-shaped pinion gears continue to mesh with the side gears with increasing force until wheel spin is slowed or completely stopped. When the vehicle exits the low traction situation, the separation forces cease and the differential resumes normal operation.''

From what I'm reading here a Tru Trac should be OK for a DD.Plus I like the cost

Matt,as far as the idler arm goes I don't know.Dennis knows more than I do.I checked Amazon and they don't list the one for my diff, but from what I see their prices seem higher for the diffs that they do list.

Dennis probably knows something neither one of us does. :dunno:

I'm just curious. I know on the S-series, the idler arm attaches to the frame with just a bracket. On my K1500, there's a grease-able joint/fitting actually (which is kinda nice).

I just wish the Tru-Trac was made in a 7.25". :( Looks like 8.25" is the smallest.
