I would just cut them out, why spend the extra money. :dunno:
Because most states are doing SMOG CHECKS and it WILL NOT pass inspection without the CATS...

Not ALL states. :jester:

And I don't think Florida is a smog test state? :dunno:
And I don't think I said ALL states...:dunno:
I think you are right about Florida not testing for that....YET...
Texas didn't used to test for it either...anywhere in the state.
Now all Metro areas do it.
Some of the rural areas do not test for it... YET...but the smog test area is slowly expanding.

That's true. That'd be my luck. I do something like that, and have to add all that crap back in a few years

I used to ALWAYS take the cats off of my vehicles... did it for years.
Then they started checking to see if it still "HAD" the cats... not a smog test... just visually checking to see if they were THERE.
Then I started gutting them, but left the shell...
Then they started smog tests... so now I leave them on.. :( :(

I guess I still don't get the point of removing the cats on a modern vehicle. I guess if it's a sound you are going for?? But you're not going to gain any power by doing so. Now if you're talking about an 80's vehicle with old school cat technology then that is a different story. :dunno:

Florida stopped the inspections a few years ago(maybe 8-10 years):dunno: My question was "what if" ? "IF" we get them back the exhaust shop said "put them in".

I just thought removing them was :quote:what all the cool kids were doing.:quote:.

Seriously (modern or old, regular or high flow) I thought no cats resulted in better flow and sound and removed one more part of the equation. Horsepower "addage" I figured was some what minimal in and by itself, but added to the overal it would help.:dunno:

I'm more looking at the difference of $150-$200 in parts and labor to add highflow. OF COURSE if emission checks are reinstated I'd be screwed then.

That's why I'm opting for Thorley shorties as opposed to long headers. At $700 installed that's quite the investment to throw away for emissions checks.(I've read in some states MOVING the postion of the cat will fail you just the same as removing them.)

They don't check emissions here in Louisiana unless you live in Baton Rouge. They WILL fail you if your CEL is on though (some places will, at least).
