Can anyone tell me if you can distiguish the difference between a 8.25 front diff. and a 9.25 with-out removing the ring rear? I baught this 94 suburban, and it looks like its had alot of $ thrown at it at one time or another. It had 4.10s in it, but only had a ten bolt rear (yes it was gernaded). I'm wondering what front diff it had in it. I've also replaced the rear with a 14 bolt w 3.73s.:dunno:

If the front diff looks like this it's an 8.25, the 9.25 will look much beefier. Sorry I don't have any better info for you than that.

Doesn't the 9.25" hang down lower and also mount differently? I didn't think they were interchangable without modification/a bracket swap or something. :dunno:

They sell a wiring harness to plug it into your truck... (which I have) I think they mount the same... It's the same CV's...

Matt... Mine has 3.73's if you want to upgrade

The crush sleeve allows you to set the bearing preload and have it stay at the tension you set it at. Which is very important for bearing and gear life. Look at this pic and you can see a small ring that is slightly cocked, that is the crush sleeve. It is mounted between the 2 bearings and as you tighten up the yoke nut it "crushes" down as you tighten. That is why it is very important when setting preload to only go a little at a time and check. If you go too far you have to tear it all down and replace the sleeve.
