My condolences Dan. :( I know all too well how it feels. 3 of my 4 trucks have been from MN and the other was originally from MN, but I bought it in WI.

What would you be looking for in the future? Another GMT800 or a 900?
I'd probably be looking for another '99-'02 to keep the drive-by-cable throttle body, but any GMT800 would probably be considered. We're still years away from this decision though, I'm going to drive this thing until it's unsafe.
That is a good point and something I should keep in mind should I ever decide to get a "newer" truck. Can't the drive-by-wire be converted back to cable?

Yes, but as far as I know you'd need the harness (and possibly PCM) from a DBC truck. It probably wouldn't bee too bad on a GMT800, but it just wouldn't be worth it on a GMT900 since they have the separate ECM and TCM, it's not like drive by wire is THAT bad.
Its not that bad, but I definitely notice a difference with my mom's 2010 G6; there's a little lag time but not much.

If I ever did buy a newer truck, it would probably be 03-06 and I'd definitely be looking into the swap.

All the lag time can be tuned out by BlackBear...

I'm not so worried about the lag time, I just kinda trust the cable more although it can get stuck.

I'd love to get a tune on my mom's G6!

A standalone transmission controller, such as those used in some diesel conversions, could be OK. There are also those aftermarket fuel injection modules that are usually aimed to drive-by-cable stuff...
