as you might remember last time i posted i was doing a tranny flush on my 2006 yukon. anyway, I replaced the fluid and have been trying to get a consistent reading. finally two different days I warmed up the engine really good and got a reading that sais it's half way up the hatch marks for the hot check both times, but i checked it this morning before starting the engine to see what the cold reading was and the fluid was way up the dipstick like it was over full. does that make sense?? by the way the breather tube is not clogged.

the other questions is, my transfer case calls for Dexron III for refill, Can i use Dexron VI instead? thanks for you help guys.

I believe you are supposed to check the fluid in Park (or Neutral) with the engine running. Checking it cold with the engine off will not give you an accurate reading.

Like Zem said, make sure it is running in park. It should be at the cold mark on the dipstick.

Use Dexron III in the transfercase. Not Dexron VI I'm showing on the AMSOIL site that it takes the regular ATF and not the ATL so that tells me that it is supposed to use Dexron III only.
