I'm looking for a set of screwdriver bits that are attached to sockets. The ones Craftsman has (here) are too long in the philips head ones. The whole point of these (for me) is to be able to use the screwdriver bit in a tight location where a regular screwdriver can't fit (oh, lets say speaker grills on dash boards of S10's :D). Right now the only thing I have that works is the "Z" or "S" thing like in this set (left side towards the bottom).

I'm looking for a set that is like this one in terms of length, but not 7pc for $50.

Brand and site/store aren't a big deal. I'd rather find what I'm looking for.

I'd like them to be either 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch drive (or links to one of both would be great!) and include philips (#1, 2, 3 (maybe 3) and flat/slotted (various sizes). I already have Torx bits (T10-T60) in various drive sizes (bought the "master" set from Lisle tool that Sears has) so I really don't need any, but I guess some more couldn't hurt (especially the T10, T15, T20).

Thanks for all your help! :tmc:

Something like this doesn't look bad, but $32 is still a lot for only 7pc.

I have a craftsman set that has a tiny ratchet that accepts 1/4 inch hex screwdriver bits. It was about a dozen bits and the ratchet. It came in a little plastic case that looks like it would hold drill bits. I got it years ago, but it was about 15-20 bucks if my memory serves me right. I got it the same reason as you, to get to the speaker grills on my dash but on my 87 Cutlass. I had less that 2 inches between the screw and the glass and this set worked perfectly. I know Husky makes a set too. I saw it for 10 bucks during Christmas. But that set was a little bigger, it also included some 1/4 inch drive sockets. I am sure Harbor frieght would have a similar set too.

Looks like one of these is what you need...any standard screwdriver tip will fit...it's a tad over 4'' long

I've had it for years and is worth it's weight in gold

Well, as far as the price is concerned, you will be better off paying for a good set. After years of busting #2 and #3 apex tips I say buy the good ones.

I'll have to look out for that one.

That would work, but it doesn't look like I can put a good amount of force down on it. Looks like the ratchet will just slide right down the bit, but I'll look for that one too. Never know when that might come in handy!

I know what you mean. That's why I'm not buying the cheapest set I find.

Thanks for all the input!!

The one I have looks just like the one Gary has. You can use your other hand to push it down if it slips. Its works great in tight spots.

Check out the Kobalt tools at Lowe's I've picked up quite a few specialty tools there and they have been great.

Check this out. This is the set that Home Depot was selling during Christmas time for 10 bucks.

I am sure you can find a similar set at Sears, Lowes, or Even Harbor Freight.

I'll be checking Sears. Maybe tomorrow if not sometime this week.
