If he's a salesman he can spend the $8 on the temp plate...
After all, he's going to tack on another 2k when he goes to sell the car anyway

The problem is I don't have the title to give him. I have to pay off the loan in order to get that from the bank.Take your plates off!
If you leave them on and he drives 30 miles down the road and hits a minivan full of kids and kills them all, then runs from the scene(I know, extreme example) YOU will be the one the cops and lawyers come after. The car is registered to you and it will all come back to you. The bill of sale should serve as a temp registration, then it is the buyers responsibility to get to DMV and get their own plate or another temp tag.
If he doesn't like that, he is probably trying to pull something shady anyway.
I don't think that is true in Indiana. I am going to make copies of the Bill of sale, his drivers license, and his insurance policy card. I may ask him to send my plate back as soon as he gets home and just hand him the money to go get a temp tag, that way I don't have to worry as much. Problem with it being the holiday weekend though the BMV won't open until Tuesday, and he isn't coming until 6 pm tomorrow night. The bill of sale will act as a temporary title. He can take that to the DMV, tell them the title is being sent from the bank, and get a temp tag. It may cost a couple dollars, but it shouldn't be much. The liability outweighs the cost, even if you pay whatever the temp tag runs.

He said he was bringing the proper paper work, since he works as a car salesman I figure he has the right stuff to make it proper. I am not to worried about it.Based on what I'm reading here, I see no reason to risk YOU being liable for something HE might do with the vehicle after he takes it..
I find it hard to believe that there isn't some sort of way to do the transaction that gets YOU off the hook and gives HIM the vehicle at the point of sale.. There are TONS of vehicles traded in every day that aren't paid for and the title has to show up later. If he's not trying to pull a scam, he should be able to give you an official, formalized process that doesn't put you at legal risk...![]()
