Why couldn't he just put an in-transit sticker on it? Is he trying to save the $$$ for the new plate. :dunno:
I don't know. I trust the guy, but I just am not sure how it works. I called my insurance company and they said it would be covered, but it would mean I would have to pay for it. But then again, I will have all of his information so IF I had a problem I should be able to resolve it.

The guy called today and wondered if I could leave my plate on and we would write on the bill of sale that he was liable for anything until I get the title from my loan and mail it to him. He said he would mail me my plate back. Should I do this? He works at a car dearlership, so I feel like he knows what he is doing.
Don't know what to tell you. In Texas the plates stay with the car when you sell it. If he's willing to wait for the title, it seems only fair to let him.

That is my thought, my dad is against it though. Only because if something happens, I am liable. However if we list it on the bill of sale, I think that is legal proof that he is liable. :dunno:

When I traded the truck in for the Subaru, the dealer took the plates off the truck and gave them to me. He said since the truck was changing hands, new plates had to be issued. So, they didn't need my olds ones.. and I seem to remember him saying they were "supposed" to give the old plates to me. But, I could be wrong about that.. :dunno:

He was probably going to put his dealer plates on it and drive it. Texas plates stay with the vehicle and get replaced every 5 years when you renew. I've done a million of em. Some dealers pull off all of the plates and install their plastic dealer names plates but they are fucking the next customer by making them pay for new plates when they didn't need to. Dealers don't **** us do they? :dunno:

Of course not! You know those auto-guys are only there to HELP us, not HURT is!

Well, I do know the sales manager used it as a demo at least for a week or two.. I'm not sure how long, though.. :dunno: So, you're probably right about them putting a dealer plate on it..

Actually, with all the tollways up here, I didn't mind them giving me the plates back. Then, I don't have to worry about them running around and ringing up tolls "for me." :uhoh:

That is probably the smartest move right there. Some people keep their plates because they think it insures them against liabilities. In this day and time, I;m not sure that is such a bad idea.

I called the BMV today, I was told that legally he cannot buy and drive my car with a bill of sale and my plates. My plates are registered to me so I would be liable for anything that happens with the car while my plates are on it. He can take the Bill of sale to the BMV and get a 96 hr temp. plate for 8 bucks though.

I just called the guy, he is a car salesman at a big dealership. He said he called his insurance and asked them if they would cover anything that happened and they told him yes as long as it was stated on the bill of sale. He is giving me his policy number. I feel ok about letting it happen, I just hope it doesn't bite me in the ass.
