Well what I do know that in 2000 Isuzu provided GM one of the most powerful diesel motors with technology dumping wastegate systems and ect.. Isuzu originally had plans of becoming the largest diesel motor supplier..

But according to Wikipedia which is not always a 100% accurate states that all ties were freed between gm and isuzu in 2006... So with this idea out there does that mean that the duramax is considered in house even considering that the technology was originally supplied by Isuzu...

What gives... Can anybody enhance this??

I would tend to think so, though the intellectual property can still be considered Isuzu and GM is simply making payments to Isuzu for its designs/patents.

I think that they are still talking about the 4.5 Dmax in the half tons in 2011... Why I asked about all this would the 4.5 be in house for Gm?

As far as I know, GM and Isuzu simply worked together to create the 6.6L. The 7.8L is strictly Isuzu and the 4.5L is all GM. Even though they did work together the Duramax engines where built in Morraine, OH. Also, Bosch and a few other companies, where brought in to help with the Duramax's design and revisions.
