I think I may try the white vinegar first, unless someone gives me a good reason not to.. (And, yes, I am purposely avoiding the Fluffer comments, FeFe.

Mineral deposits are made of calcium and salts, and they dissolve well in acid. Vinegar will get rid of the deposits without damaging the chrome. I use it to clean the bathroom fixtures in the house.
Cool! I think I have some white vinegar in the kitchen. I'll give that try in a little while. Do I need to do anything to completely remove the vinegar, after / if the spots are removed? Hose it down or anything..? I'm guessing a follow-up with polish & wax are probably a good idea, too?
