Americans as a rule do not like diesel vehicles (other than the redneck types and wanna be big riggers). They stink. The fuel stinks. Every time they are offered, they do not sell in any real numbers.

I for one will never drive a diesel vehicle.

Not just rednecks or wannabe big-riggers would like a diesel car, there are also those shopping-mall-hippies who love Volkswagen diesels and other people who would consider to get one if there were diesel Chevy or Ford cars in the USDM again. There is actually a demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles that aren't so mechanically-complex as some hybrids and not dependent of a small refueling infrastructure like happens with the CNG-powered Civic GX, for example.

Come to the states. Every time a diesel vehicle is offered here, it sells in really small numbers. Other countries may be different, but they are way down the sales list here.

I understand why truckers like them... especially in HD applications, and those sell well here.

True, but I'd be willing to drive 200 miles to pick up a vehicle with less than half the mileage of another one.

Looks like the closest one is in Baltimore. That is what a 3hr drive from you?

Probably more, like 5hr or 6.

I have been strongly looking into this car still. I am going to look at it tomorrow, the 30th. I feel a deal coming on.. Thinking of offering $14,200 for it.

Daniel, US regulations make it extremely tough for auto makers to develop and sell a diesel in this country. It costs a tremendous amount of money manufacturers will never get back due to low volume.

I know. But if Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW managed how to deal with these freak EPA regulations the local manufacturers could do so. And even increase the market share for brands like Cadillac in export markets, for example.

I went to look at the Malibu last night. Test drove it, what a great car, the drive and braking and handling was absolutely great. It sure doesn't feel like a 41k mile vehicle. Then again my truck doesn't feel like a 106k miled truck so its possible. The history looks pretty clean and clear, no leasing, no renting. Body looks fine, barely a scratch that I would tell from looking it over real well. Very comfortable interior. I might get it if we settle for an agreeable price.

Pics from my Blackberry.

That's a clean looking car Darren. I had a Malibu rental when I wrecked my service truck. I was impressed with it.

That looks like a very nice, clean car. I would snatch that up if they agree on the price.

Thanks guys, really hoping it comes through. It will be the first GM vehicle I will have owned since my silverado from 3yrs ago.

Has anyone noticed the calipers are painted? Kinda surprised me.
