I got it firgured out-the base plate gasket was wrong one and i got one from a guy for $3.50 and its all on and i got vacum adv. now---thanks though. Thinking of putting this 750 holly on the mod up 350 i got but think it might be to much carb.? I got a 600 eldrbrock on it now-any input?
Ok-i agree-solid advice-thanks 66---i heard a holly can give as much as 20hp over any carb out there even at size for size. I am going with the Holly.I got it firgured out-the base plate gasket was wrong one and i got one from a guy for $3.50 and its all on and i got vacum adv. now---thanks though. When you are talking about carb sizing and brand there are a lot of opinions out there. If you ask 10 different people you will very likely get 10 different answers.
Here is mine. Take it for what it is worth.
I don't think the 750 is too much carb for the 350 at all. That being said, I will put a little astrix beside it. Holley carbs are my preference for performance. Set up right they will be just as dependable, drivable, and out perform or perform with about any thing. So as a general rule. If you are pretty good with a carb then I would say the 750. If you want an easy carb that you do have to mess with, just hop in and go the 600 will be a good choice.
My biggest concern is with who ever rebuilt the holley put the wrong gasket on the base plate. Rebuilding a 4150 style holley is about the easiest carb you can tear apart.
If you decide to stick with the Holley, I have included a link to some great tuning info.

The engine is a 350 1974 rebuilt by oreillys stock heads getting a 180psi-double roll chain-hei with a super coil and weight set with plugs gaped at 40 instead of 35-16 degrees intial timing-hi flo theromostate-6800rpm stealth intake-headers with dual exhaust and flow master-using a car balancer-underdriven pullys on balancer an waterpump-electric fuel pump an electric fan-cam is a 480lift 288duration 110lobe 2200 to 6200rpm range-long sloted 1.5 rockers-cold ram air kit-750 holly carb-400 tranny rebuilt by hot rod with all upgrades an brand new stuff with the strronger spline an stage 2 shift kit-373 gears in the rearend-295/50/15 tire(25inch height). It weighs right at 4000lbs with out me in it. This is my set up pretty much. The type of heads nor the pistion are giving me that compression i don't think but it's the cam. When i had the stock cam i was getting 8.5 to 1 but when i switched cams it put it up to 10.2 to 1. I don't know what oreillys does/did to the engine i did'nt take the heads off to see if it was bored but id think they wouldnt do anything special but put it back stock and i just ran the numbers on the engine to make sure what it was. Im thinking of having it dyno tuned when im done-im probably out there over exauratring on the hp u know its the track that tells the truth-you can think you have 500hp but only get 300hp at the tire...It don't matter im happy with it-iv been working on getting this all done-i got the engine an tranny in and currently hooking it all up-when im done im going to put the engine an tranny that i pulled out of the 63 into my 70 c10-then its the 454 time...Yes a Holley blue pump should be more than enough for your combo.
500-550 hp. What heads and compression are you running again?
