Justin, if you do an air filter test, let me know and I will throw a new Donaldson your way.

Whenever I rebuild my engine, it will be a 383 with the marine intake (which gives me the MPFI). There was a guy on GM Performance that was making them and selling them, but I haven't seen any new news on it. The advantage to the intake is being able to use bolt-on S/C's (but I'm sure you already knew that!). I just thought the LS2 coils was a nice way to get rid of the distributor even if it really doesn't help all that much.thanks guys.
yeah the distributorless coil near plug stuff is over there. my engine is a L31 vortec 350, but I've changed it to run the 8 LS2 coils, I've also replaced the 'spider' CSFI, with a real MPFI running external injectors (kinda like an LSx gen III), I run it with a 2002 LS1B 12200411 PCM. so I figure it's part L31, part LS1, I call it the LS31heh.
I'm currently working on an article about swapping to the 411 PCM in the early OBDII trucks. and a couple others.

I would LOVE to see an air filter test. A guy on FSC posted some BS that K&N filters collected so much dirt and that it was worse for your engine although it had more airflow.![]()
thanks guys,
Penguin, I'll definantly take you up on that offer. I've started a thread about the air filter study over on my site, I'm still designing the rig for testing it, but if you have some ideas or suggestions let me know.

I'll go check out the articles right now!
Yep Pecos. He's by Minneapolis, MN (read that somewhere). I'm sorry to hear that he's having personal issues. I think he was selling completed intakes for around $800. I'd have no problem paying someone to do it. Especially since MichiganMotors wants around $750 for a brand new intake. I know he had a source to find them. I can't even find them on eBay or Craig's List!Whenever I rebuild my engine, it will be a 383 with the marine intake (which gives me the MPFI). yeah, the marine is a good thing. the guy you're talking about is Pecos. he was making a kit for swapping to the marine, unfortunately he had some issues come up and he hasn't been around much, I was the last person to get some of the kit parts from him, but something pretty severe happen because he sent it out to me, and never cashed my check for it. not sure exactally what happended, but I heard he's dealing with some things, which is unfortunate. he's a good guy.
luckily there are lots of people who have done the marine swap that can help overe there.
as far as the coil per plug, its actually VERY benefitial. it probably won't give someone a load of horsepower, but its gains come in other ways. first off is reliability and longevitey, my engine would go through caps and rotors every 6-8 months, plus with one coil, it has to fire 8 times every revolution, with 8 coils they don't have to fire nearly as much, which isn't a big deal but can help with the longevity of the coils, which already last a long time to begin with. the 24x competely eliminates those issues. its nice because if a cap and rotor have a problem and stop working in the middle of nowhere, you've got a large truck shaped paperweight. with 8 coils, if one goes out, you just lose one cylinder. not to mention getting rid of the ignition module next to the coil. I never had problems with that, but its just another part that can go out and make your truck a paperweight.
then there is the control. with 8 coils you have SO much more spark control to use. since each coil only has to fire one cylinder, its got boatloads of time for you to play with things like dwell time, and advance and other factors in the tune to give you the best results. not to mention that when using the 411 PCM, its built around using a 24x crank sensor, not the 4x. they've just kinda cobbled it together for the 4x crank sensor to work, but if you're actually running a 24x, you can have better control of certain events and other tuning factors as well since the PCM has better resolution on crank position.
so the 24x setup is a decent cost mod, but for me since I do my own tuning and such, it was worth it.

here's a pic of my intake setup, its fairly modified. this isn't my engine, but it is my intake.
