Why lower a 4x4?

Most people (most) don't set out to buy a 4wd vehicle and lower it. There are several reasons why people would modify the vehicle they already have, and the main one is money. Lots of times that vehicle is already paid off.

What really gets me is the close-minded idea that a 4wd truck HAS to be an offroad only truck. People just can't wrap their minds around it. You say "well my truck is a 2wd, but I only ever use it to haul on the road". Well what happens when you have to turn off the road into a soggy yard to unload a washing machine or something? You're going to get stuck and the world will laugh.

I always explain to them, it's like a 2wd, only with traction! Its optional! They say, why not AWD? I say, because wouldn't you rather have OPTIONAL AWD? I don't want to eat up suspension parts like the AWD SSS's do. I like to do 2 wheel burnouts. With the touch of a button, I can go from 2wd to 4 in a second. And then back.

If you really think about it, every truck ever made should be 4wd. Whether high or low. Think about most rear ends and their open setup. You mainly have 1 wheel trying to push that whole truck in the event of you getting stuck or in heavy rain. Thats an epic fail IMO.

If I had a 4WD truck I would want to use it for mudding at least once a week, then a lowered one wouldn't fit my requirements. About heavy rain or some stucks (not so extreme), for this reason a lot of 2WD trucks come with LSD rear ends. Sure it's not as effective as 4WD but already helps.
Yeah if you special order that option.

If you want to use your truck for mudding thats fine, but just know that there are other uses for a 4wd lowered truck.

When my truck was stock with mudders on it I used to love bringing it in the mud. Until I kept getting stuck up to the frame, and had to walk 5 miles to a payphone to get a wrecker to pull me out. I also realized that running a $40,000 dollar truck through mud regularly is a damn good way to tear it up.

It's all about what makes that individual person happy. But a lowered 4x4 isnt rice. Its a 2wd truck, with 4 wheel drive capability. Everyone accepts the idea of an AWD truck, such as the silverado SS. Well, mines optional AWD.

I think people get banned here for lowering a 4x4.
