Last night my mom took my 2 week old Jeep to Walgreens and the check engine light came on. Called the dealer today and tried to make an appointment, said the check engine light came on in my car and I wanted to get it in, the writer said she could get me in Tuesday at 10 and then started getting my information. I gave my name and that it's a 2011 Grand Cherokee she said please hold and put me on hold. She came back a few minutes later "I'm sorry, we can't get you in till the week after next, the only guy we have that can do check engine lights will be in training all week next week" and then wouldn't even make me an appointment for the week after. They only have one tech that can use a code reader? I'm half way thinking they're trying to blow me off because I didn't buy it from them. Tempted to call the regional office tomorrow. I have a brand new, 2 week old car with under 1,000 miles having a problem and they can't get me in? Thinking I might wait another week and try again, if they still can't get me in the regional office is getting a call, I'll try and get in at the dealer 30 minutes away, and my previous loyalty to that dealer will be dead. Only reason I didn't get the Jeep there was because they couldn't get it transferred down, I tried. Also might just be reading too much into it, but just sounds too fishy to me. Could get me in, then couldn't and didn't already know that the supposed only tech that can use a code reader will be gone all next week.

Did you refuel recently? Check your fuel cap. The most common CEL light trigger. Unscrew it and the retighten it securely. It will take time to cycle off.

Last time I got gas was Sunday, put over 100 miles on it since then. The manual (or DVD it came with) says it has a "Check gas cap" message.

Most auto places will do a read for free. Auto Zone, Checker, Schucks, etc. That will at least easy your mind til you can get it in.

I'm not too worried about the light, if it's just on steady it's something stupid or a sensor and if it's an important sensor it'll drop to a fail safe mode. No damage, worst case is lower fuel mileage and/or performance but it seems to be running the same. I'm just get the feeling the dealer is trying to blow me off after all the vehicles we've bought from them because I had one little affair after trying to get it from them and couldn't. couldn't help it.

Well... IF the guy that does their diagnostics is actually gone out training, they may well be telling you the truth.
