According to Automotive News, George Pipas, Ford’s sales analyst, told a group of reporters this week that the automaker isn’t particularly concerned about the Chevrolet Camaro outselling the Mustang this year for the first time since 1985.

“If that was important, we wouldn’t have taken a shift off at Flat Rock,” the Auto Alliance assembly plant where Mustangs are built. At the end of the November reporting period, Ford had sold 68,264 Mustangs. Chevrolet sold 75,685 Camaros.

Mustang sales have never fully recovered from the pre-Lehman Brothers era, when 10,000 to 12,000 monthly sales numbers were commonplace. Ford sold 4,093 Mustangs in November, a 12.8% increase over the same month in 2009.
The overall automotive market fell from an annual sales rate of about 16 million to around 10.7 million after the financial institution’s bankruptcy. Now recovering, Pipas said the current run rate suggests a 12 million unit market, possibly approaching 13 million in 2011.

I've heard every excuse from "it's the first year that camaros are back of course they'll outsell" to everyones waiting for the 5.0 mustang in '11.

I say maybe people just wanted a car that could stomp mustang balls again (since the ls1 camaros left us). Of course youve got your hopped up special edition mustangs but stock for stock class for class the Camaro outperforms the stang.

Now the 5.0......that's a whole nother beast. We will have to see what the z28 has in response to that.

5.0 has less power and torque than the current camaro v8 and still dominates. Ford already showed its headed in the right direction with its engines. Fords backbone is their trucks and even they are getting better.

The comparison was with the '10 Camaro and the '10 stang.

Like I said, we'll see what the Z28 will do. Ford never stopped the mustang and it's takin them this long to get a decent engine in it. We're just getting back in the game:skull:

Mustangs came first and have always had a loyal following. I didnt see the camaro being saved in 2002 like the mustang was back in 88. I gotta give credit to GM for regrouping after the recession and still having the balls to bring out a gamble with the camaro. Not to mention paying the government back, but Ford was in no danger of closing down and still produced a Mustang that the masses wanted, not to stay alive but to please its loyal customers. They could have left the 300 hp 4.6 in there for a few more years and still had decent sales. Instead they designed new engines for the stang and the trucks and are making people take notice! So if the camaro sold more units then good! Imagine what ford will do with a little competition!

The Boss is just pure bad ass ness. I really hope GM does something with the Camaro. At 41K the Boss is a real bargin compared to what your getting for loaded LT2 Camaro performance wise.

GM needs a heads up performance match up to the Mustang. I should point out I am talking all around performance. The Boss is a world glass performance car that Ford has built and it's not just a bunch of bolt on parts that you can buy to convert your GT into Boss.

GM needs to do something like that. They also in my opinion get some of the build quality and materials used a little better to match or surpass the quality of the Mustang. This should happen over the next few years I hope. The Pony car wars have just restarted and it's going to be intresting to see what happens.

It's just my opinion but the Challanger only wins the looks catagory. These guys have tons of work to do under the the skin of this car to even come close to the Camaro and Mustang.

If they'd bring the prices down $7500 they'd sell twice as freaking many. All of them.

You shouldn't have to have a great job to afford (not just make the payments) a fucking Mustang or Camaro.

True....I'd go a little more for a corvette myself with those prices.
