I have a 1999 Sierra and have been looking at switching the cluster out for a Denali's so I could get the trans temp gauge. I have found one out of a 2002 Yukon but I have heard that the 1999's clusters are programed differently because it was the first year the styling was switched over...

My question is would it work?

Thanks,
Nick

From what I have heard, it will work but it may or may not make your airbag warning light come on. I put one in my 2001 and it was plug and play. :dunno: I have heard that the maindifference in the 99s was the airbag wiring.

I tried one in my '99 and the tranny temp gauge didn't work,It was not plug-n-play.
It was plug-n-play on the '04 I had.

I should be able to look and see if my transmission has a temp. gauge right? Where might I do that? If I don't even have the gauge it isn't worth it because that's the whole reason I'm looking into this...

Well you kinda' have it,The truck has a tranny temp gauge sensor,Its there for a TECH2 or scan gauge to read,Its just my understanding the wiring isn't there for a gauge in the cluster to work.

I remember reading that the clusters from the 99 model 2500 Light Duty (new body style) trucks MIGHT be plug and play. The Denali/Escalade/2500HD clusters from the 00/01 models won't plug and play without airbag lights, and some of them the tranny temp doesn't read. Seems pretty iffy to me.
