I just got a better look at it after a short drive. The frikkin water pump is leaking. I pro ahoy didn't see it before cuz it dried up really fast on a hot engine. How hard is it the change the water pump? :dunno:

Fortunately the water pump is one of the easiest tasks you will ever do to a Chevy V8. It's not a bad job.

Not bad at all, I had to swap mine out a while back. I'll try to find the link.

Edit: http://truckmodcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4674&page=2

I that was was about getting the fan clutch off the pump, but other than that, you'll just need to drain the radiator by removing a lower hose, or the drain plug if it has one. Just do some googling, and its not that hard at all

Scott, be sure it's the pump and not the gaskets that go between the pump and block. The gaskets are only a few dollars. Could you see exactly where it was leaking from?

Based on the age of that coolant, I am betting the seal has had it.

It looks like its leaking from that hole on the bottom. Isnt that called a weeping hole or sumthin? It may be leaking on the gasket as well, I saw coolant all over that area.
But I've looked under there 5 or 6 times now and didn't see ANY coolant leaks at all until today. Could it be because its evaporating really fast?
And what all neds to come off to get the water pump off? I know on older chevy engines ALL the belt driven acessories need to come off before you can get the pump off? Is this one the same way?
Another question, is it ok for me to drive the truck like that? I mean so long as I keep the coolant topped off and it doesnt run hot. :dunno: It will probably be after Thanksgiving before I'm able to change this water pump.

It's hard to say. I have had them weep a little, with the intention of "getting right on it" and then come out in the morning to find a massive puddle under there.
