Steering Wheel Wobble at HWY speeds

I have driven up and down I-95 recently going to the deer processor. I noticed that most of the time I am going up there (roughly 20 miles) that the steering wheel wobbles a good bit, I can't tell if it is the road (which is pretty crappy) or if it is the truck. Once I hit fresh asphalt or something it tones down a bit, but it still is there.

Anyone have any ideas? I had my ball joints checked out last time it was at the mechanics getting the new front struts on, and I changed PS fluid about 3 months ago. I haven't messed with suspension stuff too much since I bought it a little over a year ago

Jeff, I just went through this on my 06 F150. After having the techs look at it, and coming up with nothing, I had them swap the front wheels to the rear and it went away. Turns out, the cords were seperating on one the tires. Damn Maxxis tires, it was the 3rd time we had issues with them on this truck, and I ditched them for a new set of Bridgestone Duelers.

Anyhow, you might try moving your fronts to the rear and see if there is any change.

Rotate your tires and see if it settles down. If it does you have probably slung a weight on a wheel.

Ok I'll try that I am going to swap my current wheels/tires sometime this week because I don't wanna put anymore miles on my current tires because I can't afford new tires right now

I was having that problem also, ended up my rotors were warped. Got them turned and then the vibration was gone.

Yeah thats normally one of the 3 top causes of the wobble in our trucks. The wheel weight being off, a warped rotor or a mis-alignment.

Mine did the same thing.... Took it in and had the "stick on" wheel weights removed and had them install the regular rim-edge weights, on the inside only of course, and it solved the steering wheel shake immediately!

I have a wobble, but it occurs at just about any speed, but I know mine is the tie-rod ends. Just about any time weight is taken off the front end (bump, accelerate hard, etc).

Probably doesn't help you at all, but that's all I know.

check your tie rod ends, mine were shot and did that and replaced them with moog stuff and shake no more
