Ford shows off Police Interceptor Stealth concept ahead of SEMA debut

Ford Police Interceptor Stealth – Click above for high-res image gallery

In addition to the raft of Mustangs and F-150s that Ford will be debuting at this year's SEMA show, this special Police Interceptor Stealth concept will be on display in Las Vegas this week. Ford designer Melvin Betancourt took inspiration from the SR-71 stealth airplane used in the 1950s and 1960s to create a Taurus-based Police Interceptor that manages to be flashy yet still able to fly under the radar.

Compared to a standard Police Interceptor sedan, the Stealth concept is lowered by one inch and rides on sinister 22-inch wheels. The rest of the car has been blacked out as much as possible – smoked taillamps, tinted windows and black trim all around the car make for a package that, as Betancourt says, gives the illusion of "there, but not there." Hit the jump to read the full details, and scroll through our high-res image gallery to see the concept for yourself.

We have a lot of unmarked cars here. They run speed traps big time with unmarked cars. Technically they are really marked cars, but they have reflective graphics the same color as the car. They light up at night but are almost impossible to see during the day.

Sneaky!

Cool concept, but don't know many police departments who would want 22's. And, it is still just a slightly modified Taurus when it is all said and done......

The 22s are all for show. They would never make it to production on an actual police vehicle... or if they did it would be pretty stupid. Police cars go through a world of obstacles. The 22s would die a horrible death very quickly. One flying trip over some railroad tracks and they would be square.

We have unmarked Mustangs, old Firebirds, Explorers and even ghetto'd out Tahoes. Indiana needs revenue. :D

It's a pretty cool looking car. We really don't have too many unmarked cars around here.

All we have are Crown Vic's, a few, few Chargers, Explorers. No fancy-shmancy cars.

People here have been bitching about getting ticketed by unmarked cars... especially in school zones. I've found that if you don't speed, they tend to leave you alone. :dunno:

They also give $200 tickets for using a cell phone on a school zone here. YES!~
