Got an offer I couldn't refuse today from a buddy at work looking to sell a subaru. Not sure what year the car is but it's not too terribly old, my guess is newer than 2000. It's an outback with 206,000 on the clock, brakes are worn on all 4 corners but other than that it's ready for the next 200K. He offered to sell it to me for $200. Only reason I don't have it yet is I passed the offer on to a buddies mom that has fallen on hard times and totaled her car recently.

She hasn't decided yet if she will do it or not (she is driving a free car from another buddy now but it doesn't have heat) but once she does either I will be doing a brake job on her new car or my new car. $200 for a car in that good of shape is something I can't pass up.

Subarus are pretty solid cars. If it runs, you know you could instantly double your money or better.

Don't tell that to Michael... ha ha He might try to sell it and walk away in a smart car...

Could you imagine that?

head gaskets are common on the 2.5s but they are very easy to repair, and doing the timing belt is easily changed too. :)

Wow! That sounds like a good deal. Post some pics if you get it!

I spend "some" time on SubaruOutback.org. There are a LOT of fanboys over there, though. So, they seem to either be bragging about "the best cars every made" or whining about "how screwed-up the new Outbacks are, because Subaru is going mainstream now" / "Subaru is the next Toyota." (i.e. recalls, etc) :dunno:

There is some good info over there, though.. You just have to weed through some of the fanboy non-sense..

Good luck, man!

...and, like Clancy said, the headgaskets on those 2.5's is a COMMON issue... Every 90k miles, I think..? :dunno: There's a "service interval" on the timing belts, too. From what I've heard, it's not a "sometimes you have to do it that often." It's more of a "do it or screw stuff up" thing.. :uhoh:
