Son has a 1993 F150, 300 six, auto trans 4x4. When it's cold it starts and runs well. After it warms up it will die and generaly runs like shit. I attempemted a new TPS. WE disconnect the battery and let the codes clear and reconnet. It will run good then start running like crap and die in few minutes, let it cool down it takes a little while. When its hot you can get it started but it takes messing with the gas and pumping the crap out of it until it clears and it will run ok and then it starts over and dies.

I am think the EGR but he does not have much money to toss at it.....basicly I will be paying for my 25 year old to get his truck running ( :fume: ) I have told him to save etc and he has good job but he lets his GF suck away all his cash..........anyhow......

I can mess with the EGR and get it to run ok and clear up and then it goes to shit again. I have no idea how to pull the codes from this thing, can I rent a diagnostic tool for it to get the codes? Where the hell is the connector?

I am going to hopfully get some answers or ideas here.

Truck has 210,000 miles. The engine runs (when it running) very well. The exhaust is very, very, very hot and I think the cat or cats (has what looks like cat right out of the exhaust manifold down pipes) because it sounds like vacume when you get on it and not much exhuast is coming out. I really don't think this is going to make it run like it does though.

Anythinh guys? all comments suggetsions or bombs to blow this fWONking thing up will be apprieciated.

sound like it's slow in timing if the exhaust is getting that hot. i would deff. look into that with 210k idk how the older fords timing chains are because i just went to ford lol but with that many miles it's possible it has slipped or jumped out of time.

If the exhaust is to hot when it is running, I suspect that it is running lean. I would check the fuel pressure, sounds like a weak fuel pump.

The 300 six has timing gears so I dought it's jumped. The fuel pressure has not been measured but it seems fine. I have to wonder why it's ok when cold and runs crappy when hot. I really think the cat or cats are bad but I don't think that would make it run bad or would it? I would think that when they get hot they might flow better but the flow out seems the the same hot or cold????

Not discounting what anyone has suggested just putting my thoughts out there. Anyone know how to test the EGR? Or test the EGR sensor?

What gets cleaned in the EGR area, where it bolt to the intake/air itake area just behind the throttle body?

IAC? What is that? Whre is it at? Has new fuel filter installed.

Again if it's fuel problem would it not be all the time?

It depends sometimes it can be bad enough not to start at all just turn over. sometimes it can run fine starting then go to crap because there's not enough fuel going to the motor causing everything to heat up.

Those Fords have an ignition module up by the distributor. I have seen those go bad and cause them to stall when warm. I don't know how to describe it to you, it is an angular module with wires plugged into it, and at least on the 302, it was mounted right up by the distributor. I will see if I can find any pics or anything to help you.
