Did any GMT400s come with disc brakes in the rear?

Is the GMT800 axle exactly the same as the GMT400 (except for the disc braked versions) ?

I like my disc brakes on all 4 corners...

I know my '99 GMT400 had drum brakes. I don't have a clue. As for the axle, they may have changed that. I'm not really sure. :dunno: A lot of help I am.

I installed disc brakes on my gmt400. Both it and the sierra I had both came with disc brakes. I don't think were available until you get into the heavy Chevy's

I don't think the GMT-400's came with discs. I know in my Chilton manual, there is a mention of a drum brake mounted on the output of the trans, but I don't know if that was for the C/K or the R/V series.

How much did the disc conversion cost you Brian?

Anybody know the differences between the GMT400 rear axles and the GMT800 rear axles?

:dunno:

Thanks for checking

Seriously, though... I do need to know if they're the same width at the mounting surface for the wheels...

The rest is minor... Spring perches don't need to be in the same place, those can be moved...

This is on a 4x4 axle I need to know...

If they ARE the same, then I can look for a 99-04 truck axle to keep my disc brakes (which will be less work, since that's what my truck already has...)

The spring perches are not the same widths. I just measured for my buddy a few weeks ago, and his were about 2" narrower if I remember correctly.

Those are easily cut off and moved though (Jeep guys do it all the time).

GM didn't debut disc rear brakes until the 99 GMT800s came out on a half ton truck. They actually went away from disc rears and back to drums because the drums offer more swept area for stopping heavier loads, in spite of the common notion that drums were cheaper.
