She asked me if I was scared. I said no, but if you hit one of these light poles, you won't have to worry about driving, healing would be better for you.

Heard "THAT"...there were several times that I felt the same way...
After he learned the "BASICS"...and was a pretty decent driver...I started teaching him how to "CONTROL" it in bad situations...:uhoh:

THAT is when it got a little hairy a few times...

She'll have to get her learners permit before I start that. I'm just letting her get the feel of it now. I'm not sure a BlackBear tuned truck is the right thing to let her practice in, but oh well.

I started Michael out in a 2 door Crown Vic...with true duals...a modified distrubitor, an Edelbrock intake and a Holley 4 barrel on it...
Later I let him drive my Caddy some...and MUCH later I let him drive my my L-82 'vette with a "BUILT" engine.

He was a good student and learned well.

What was funny about her driving yesterday, was she kept going in a big oval like nascar. I asked her if she was afraid to make right turns. Every time she would stop and take off, she would spin the tires.

Of course, I am "SURE" she didn't "MEAN" to spin the tires...

She would look at me and say sorry. I told her that that was the least of my worries.

I did the oil change and swapped theair filter and put new wiper blades on it. It needs a wash too but I'll do that sometime this week.

I can still remember teaching Michael to drive...
We also used parking lots...there were a couple of big office parks not too far from us.
We mostly used those.

No parking lots where I grew up.. on the farm...so I learned to drive a manual in my folks '70 Super Beetle in the pastures or in small grain stubble fields. It was like driving an oversized go-cart...but it was a blast to drive.
Actually I learned to drive tractors when I was around 10 on my dad's '51 Farmall H model. My 10 year old hasn't even learned how to drive my JD LT155 garden tractor...it's got a kill switch under the seat and he's not quite tall enough to reach the clutch.... :(

Thats about the way I learned also.
On my Grandfather's dairy farm...

I learned on John Deere tractors raking hay...starting at about 10 years old also.
I sometimes drove the old 48 Ford flatbed hay truck...
I reckon "STEERED" the truck would be a more true term.
My Uncle would pull out the throttle to a fast idle...start it down the row, and then jump out.
My other Uncle was up on the bed of the truck and my Grandfather and Uncle would throw the hay bales up on the truck and the Uncle that was on the truck would be stacking them.

When we got to the end of the row...my uncle would run up to the truck and turn it around and head it down the next row...and we would do it all over again...

Man... I thought I was really "DOING SOMETHING"...I was "DRIVING A TRUCK"...

I learned on the farm too. I was 6, and my dad put blocks on the pedals for me. It was a 1948 or 49 International pickup with "three on the tree". Once I learned then it became my "job" to drive my dad out to the fields in the morning, pick him up for lunch, then get him for supper. This was all on the family grain farm up in Manitoba. 60k acres of mostly wheat and some corn. Made for the perfect place to teach a kid to drive. :)
