Today when I started the S10, it started fine, but it would begin to chug between 1800-2700rpm while under load. Eventually, after 10 minutes of driving, it quit and didn't do it the rest of the day. I don't know if I have bad gas or what is going on. I'm gonna burn through the tank and see if that helps at all or not (I'm really hoping it is only bad gas).

Could be leaky spiders, plugged cat, bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, bad distributor cap and rotor, bad plug wires...
Thanks Dennis....way to make me feel better.:frustration:
It ran fine the first 2 weeks I had it and the entire 3hr drive home.
Although, I wanted to change the fuel filter anyways (probably factory w/172k on it). Shouldn't (not can't) be the plugs, wires, cap, or rotor since the guy said he had replaced them 10-15k ago. The cat is supposedly replaced too. PLEASE don't mention the spiders! I really don't want to have to deal with them right now.

Could still be cap & rotor...

And he probably didn't change the #3 spark plug... Most people don't...

Great.....now I have a PITA spark plug (whenever I have to change it).
How do you change #3 (would that be pass. middle or driver middle)?

Drivers side middle... Steering shaft is what makes it a PITA...

You could pull the steering shaft... Apparently that's surprisingly easy...

Other than that you're going to need a wobble extension, maybe a finger ratchet

I found it easier to go in through the fender.... Flip up the curtain and you can see the plug

Also, an easy way to see if the spider is leaking (besides getting horrible gas mileage) is check the oil dipstick and sniff it to see if it smells like gas. The guy who rebuilt the 4.3 in my moms Astro van told me that. He said its very common for those spiders to leak and gas gets down into the oil.

Thanks. I'll remember to either remove the steering shaft or go at it through the fender.

As of right now, I'm getting 22mpg. Not all that bad even for the 4.3 (which I know isn't known for MPG's).

Well, today I drove the S10 for about 2hrs in the morning; making 7 stops on the way back home. It seemed to turn over just a hair slower as the morning progressed. (bought a new Wiper Motor Pulse Module today to be put in at a date TBD) I went to start it this evening, click-click-click....so I pulled the battery and have it on charge for the night. Hopefully it is either the battery (which doesn't have a date on it) or the alternator. We'll see.

Tomorrow, I'll be taking this load to the junkyard.

My buddy is selling the frame, suspension components, hood & fender, trans (Turbo 350), axle, steering column (apparently has collapsing shafts in it), and a few other small things. All these parts will be most likely sold to local race car drivers. Frame and suspension components are hard to come by.

I have to remember to throw a couple of things in the bed for work, and then drive it to work of course. :D

traded it for an Audi A4.

PSYCH :jester:

But really, let a friend borrow my Jeep to move into her apartment, and in return I get to drive around a lowered, chipped, and heavily tweaked 2000 A4 that looks bone stock.
