I think you are right in the fact that the 3rd relay is causing things to slow down...maybe...I sure hope so .

A 1 watt diode should be enough...

And yes, they're marked in the direction of flow.

The | on the left is your highbeam wire, and the | on the right is your lowbeam wire.

The > is the diode and the --- is your wires connecting things to the diode

You should always have a relay for HID's... They'll thank you

But you just need to connect it to the highbeam power on wire, and you should be good to go... Which ever one gets +12 V when the highbeams are on.

So what I want to do is go from the signal wire coming from the factory high beam, diode, and go to the signal wire to the low beam relay. (this would eliminate my 3rd relay)

Tyler, just so you know, you DO NOT want to connect to the black wire (at least I didn't). I'd tell you the color, but I can't remember.


So if my headlights are at 37" and I'm 20' away from a wall, I want to be at ????
If it is 1" for every 3', I should be at 31"....that doesn't sound right.

What's the 3rd relay for, your quadbeam setup? Is that what powers your lows when turning your highs on?

A small capacitor might also work on the relay trip wire...

Get someone to turn your highs on while your head is by the relay and see if you can hear it turning off.

Ya, the 3rd relay is for the quad setup and powers the lows when the highs turn on.

I think by eliminating the 3rd one, my lows might not flicker since the relay might stay open (and not have to wait for a 3rd one to open (turn lights on)).

That might solve your problem too...

The ignition charge might be causing power to drop, making the relay kick out.

If that's the case, then adding a capacitor to the feed for the relay would solve that problem. When the voltage dipped the cap would kick it back up again, keeping the relay from opening. It depends on just "what" is causing the voltage drop when the highs kick on. Could be a poor power connection to the battery, too small a wire gauge for the current, or a weak or undersized battery.

It's most likely the factory wiring doesn't like the ignition charge of the HID's...

I'm pretty sure adding a relay for the HID's on the highbeams will fix the problem.

If that doesn't do it, then it's the highbeam switch is too low when switching, in which case, a capacitor WILL solve that problem.
