Ya, Ya! :p Pays for my analysis though. I would like to see someone do a conventional analysis though. Everybody just says they change everything 3k miles for piece-of-mind, but what about the numbers??

The level of machining and tolerance in a modern engine is exponentially better than the days of the 3K oil change. You have far less contamination, better filtering, better fueling, better just about everything.

There is no point to a 3K mile interval. I personally would/do change my filter more often than the oil, but on my car, that is easily done without getting under the car.

Honestly there are what ... hundreds of types of oil on the market? How many people do you hear about suffering premature engine failure due to a lack of film strength, viscosity, or some other oil based principle? The only people that really need to nitpick the oil are those that live in extremely hot or cold environments, and/or use the vehicle for hard-use like constant towing, racing, etc. If you just start your car or truck and drive to work and back you could probably lubricate the engine with Crisco.

If you want to remove the wear and tear on the engine, then keep the RPM low, and don't drive until the engine is completely warmed up. It takes significantly longer for the oil to reduce it's viscosity than for the thermostat to open. My 3.0L engine uses 7+ quarts of oil ... it takes forever to heat that up.

Sorry Nick, looks like I'll no longer be an AMSOIL user, heading to the grocery store right now!
